Navigating health insurance as a college student can be daunting, especially with academic demands. If you're a student at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) and have existing health insurance, you may opt out of the SVA Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and enroll in a plan offered by Kimber Health. Late waiver applications are accepted for two weeks post-deadline, but are subject to a $50 late fee.

Waiver Process

1.Select and purchase the $0 Essential Plan

For the School of Visual Arts (SVA), we selected Kimber Health’s Essential Plan plans to provide comprehensive and affordable coverage that meet the waiver requirements of your institution.

2.Complete and Submit the Waiver Form

When you are enrolling in the Essential Plan, mark down that you attend SVA in the application under the university field. Wait for confirmation of enrollment into the Essential Plan, which will take about 3-5 business days. In that email, you will also receive a personalized waiver guide for SVA via email.

Once you receive the confirmation, please access SVA’s waiver form and enter your details. 

3.Confirmation and Verification

SVA will review your waiver submission to ensure your insurance meets their criteria. If approved, the charge for SHIP will be removed from your student bill. If there are any issues, you will be notified to provide additional information or clarification.

4.Updating Waived Insurance Information

If your insurance changes during the academic year, you must update your information on the Student Insurance Portal. Ensure the new plan meets all waiver requirements.

5.Carrying Your Insurance Card

If your waiver is approved, it is essential to carry your existing health insurance card with you at all times. This card is necessary for accessing medical services at SVA's Student Health Services and other healthcare facilities.
